(Adj) Professor Theo Kofidis is internationally recognised for his clinical expertise across the full spectrum of adult cardiac care, encompassing advanced heart failure solutions, robotic interventions, and hybrid procedures. A heavily sought-after educator, he routinely provides elite proctoring and surgical teaching to medical institutions globally. Highlighting his leadership in the field, he is an esteemed member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) in Southeast Asia and serves on the regional steering committee of the World Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Driven by a passion to advance Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery, (Adj) Professor Theo Kofidis founded Kardia Pte Ltd, a pioneering company dedicated to developing innovative heart valve and advanced MICS technologies. Over the past decade, he has established a comprehensive, world-class clinical programme for MICS in Singapore, alongside a state-of-the-art haemodynamic research laboratory and cardiovascular surgical research group. Today, he directs two clinical Centres of Excellence and a designated Peak of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery, driving innovation in close collaboration with the National University Health System (NUHS) and leading global medical industry partners.
(Adj) Professor Theo Kofidis has received multiple awards from international bodies, including the European Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, The Onassis Heart Center, The Hellenic Cardiology Society (Lifetime Achievement Award), and the Indian Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (Lifetime Achievement Award), among others.
He serves as a consultant or advisory board member for prominent companies such as Medtronic, Johnson & Johnson, Abbott, Livanova, and others. His innovative QR-code-based book on minimally invasive cardiac surgery (Taylor & Francis/CRC Press, NY/London) introduced a novel educational concept of Read-Scan-Watch.
He also serves as Chairman of the Education Committee of the Asian Society for Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (ASCVTS) and Chairman of the CT Surgery Chapter of the Singapore Cardiac Society.
(Adj) Professor Theo Kofidis trained at some of the world’s leading medical institutions, including Rochester, NY; Texas Heart Institute, Houston; Hannover, Germany; and Stanford, CA, USA. He had the opportunity to learn from renowned experts in general and heart surgery, such as George Hicks, Seymour Schwartz, Denton Cooley, and Sir Magdi Yacoub.
He holds various international positions and has lectured for organisations like the American Medical Association, the FDA, and the Bill Gates Research Institute. As an academic teacher, proctor, and consultant for several companies in the medical field, he conducts events and workshops in various countries, sharing knowledge in minimally invasive surgery with doctors and patients.
